7 Simple Steps on How to Make Your Own Beer

1. Purchase Beer Equipment
To start with, you need special equipments to make your own beer. You have to have a brewing pot, plastic hose, fermenter, bottling bucket, airlock & stopper, bottle brush, bottle capper, thermometer, small bowl, sauce pan, oven mitts and wooden mixing spoons. These items can be bought in most supermarkets at around $200.
2. Purchase Beer Kit
The easiest way to get all the ingredients for your beer is to acquire a beer kit. Beer kits contain all of the necessary ingredients such as yeast and hopped malt concentrate. To add flavors to your beer you also have to obtain fermentables. Buying a beer kit get is easier than buying all of the ingredients separately.
3. Sanitized Equipment
After you purchased all of the necessary equipments you have to sanitize it first before using it. You can use soapy water or with iodine or chlorine solution that comes with the brewing paraphernalia. The secret to brewing your own beer is using sterile equipments.
4. Boil and Cook
To begin, boil two quarts of water at around 180F until it steams. Turn off the heat and add the beer kit and the fermentables. Dissolve everything by stirring then put in low heat for about 20 minutes. At this stage of brewing your own beer, you have a mix that is called the wort. Put the wort to the fermenter and add 4 gallons of water. Stir it for about 4 minutes to oxygenize the mixture. Add the yeast once the wort is cool enough to touch.
5. Let the Wort Ferment
Ferment the wort in a dark place for 5 days in constant temperature of 65F. If you see tiny air bubbles on the top of your mixture this means that your wort is fermenting. After 5 days, check your beer everyday. You will now when you are done fermenting your beer when there are no more air bubbles left. You can now bottle your beer.
Before bottling your own beer you have to prepare a primary solution. Add 2 cups of water then ¾ cup of dextrose into a sauce pan. Boil using medium heat and cool it down for 30 minutes then dispense it into the bottling bucket and into bottles. Secure each bottling caps to avoid leaks.
7. Final Fermentation
The last step is to ferment it again the second time. This time ferment it for 2 weeks instead of 5 days. An ideal place to do this is the basement.
